ADRA (Humanitarian Aid)

Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is a humanitarian agency which, through its financial, material and technical resources, supports, rehabilitates and enhances the quality of life and well-being of communities and citizens in developing countries with particular attention to the extremely deprived.

Adventist Chaplaincy Ministries

Adventist Chaplaincy Ministries serves as the official link to organizations using professional chaplains in secular or church related institutions. ACM screens and endorses professionally prepared Adventist chaplains to serve in the areas of healthcare, corrections, campus and the military.

Adventist Mission

The Office of Adventist Mission was formed in 2005, bringing Global Mission and the Office of Mission Awareness together in one office. Its purpose is to further the Global Mission objective of carrying the gospel to unreached areas, and to promote the importance of mission and raise vital financial support. Currently active in more than 204 countries, Adventist Mission supports the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist evangelistic, medical, media and development fields.

Adventist Professionals' Network

The Adventist Professionals' Network is an electronic global registry of Adventists who hold a college or university degree in any field. APN assists participating institutions in locating consultants with expertise, volunteers for short mission assignments, and candidates for positions in teaching, administration, and resesarch.

Adventist Review / Adventist World

In print for more than 150 years, the Adventist Review is the flagship journal of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Founded by James and Ellen White in 1849, the magazine is the one of the oldest religious publications in North America. The Review is published weekly and has a paid circulation of more than 50,000.

Adventist Risk Management

Adventist Risk Management serves the Seventh-day Adventist Church on a global basis from five offices: Silver Spring, Maryland; Atlanta, Georgia; Riverside, California; St. Albans, England; and Sao Paulo, Brazil. 130 employees provide professional risk management service in the areas of risk control consultation and education, property/casualty insurance, health care claims adjudication and personal risk services.

Adventist Television Network

ATN is a global satellite network of six channels spanning the globe. In 2003 ATN launched the Hope Channel, a global English language satellite channel broadcasting a variety of interesting Christian programs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. ATN also has full-time channels in Spanish and Portuguese languages that can be seen in Latin America and North America.

Adventist World Radio

Adventist World Radio is the international broadcast ministry of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, bringing the gospel to people in the hardest-to-reach places on earth, in their own languages. AWR currently transmits programs in nearly 70 languages; its shortwave, AM/FM, and satellite broadcasts reach two-thirds of the world, and programs are also available through the Internet.

Archives and Statistics

The Office of Archives and Statistics manages the Records Center and Archives of the denomination's world headquarters and produces the denomination's annual directory, the Yearbook, and its annual statistical summary. While its responsibilities are limited to the headquarters complex, its staff are available as consultants to the church's organizations and institutions, as time permits.

Auditing (e-mail link)

The General Conference Auditing Service (GCAS) audits church entities worldwide. 210 auditors around the globe conduct financial statement audits and perform tests for compliance with policies, contracts, and regulations in accordance with local or international auditing standards. GCAS is a professionally independent function which employs individuals with the highest professional qualifications and work experience possible.

Biblical Research Institute

The institute distributes informative papers on specific topics, presents programs for ministers' meetings, provides specialized short courses for ministerial education programs, operates a vigorous program of Bible Land seminars from the Jerusalem Center in Israel, publishes major book-length studies on specific subjects.

Children's Ministries

The General Conference Children’s Ministries website was created to introduce ourselves to the world. We hope that, after visiting our site, you will know more about our mission, our goals, our programs, and our resources.  Children's. Ministries is dedicated to minister to the whole child, providing opportunities for spiritual growth in relationship to God, others and self.

Christian Record Services

A General Conference institution, Christian Record is "helping the blind see Jesus" through free inspirational publications and Bible study guides in Braille, large print, audio, and online formats; an audio and Braille lending library with 2,000 book titles, National Camps for Blind Children, personal visits by representatives, and several college scholarships. From its Lincoln, Nebraska, headquarters, it sends materials to blind individuals in 80 countries of the world. An office in Oshawa, Ontario, directs the ministry in Canada.

Communication

The mission statement of the Communication Department is -- building bridges of hope. This we will accomplish by reaching the diverse church audiences, both within and externally, with an open, responsible, and hope-filled communication program. We will effectively use contemporary technologies and methods of communication. The desired effect of our vision and activities is to create a favorable image of the church, its mission, life and activities, and witness that many will become followers of Christ and become members of this, His church.

Education

The Education Department is responsible for the supervision, coordination, promotion and quality control of the global Seventh-day Adventist educational system. This includes 5,500 schools, colleges and universities, with 47,000 teachers and almost one million students in 100 countries. In addition to curricular materials and textbooks, the department publishes "The Journal of Adventist Education" and "College and University Dialogue" in four language editions.

Ellen G. White Estate, Inc.

The Ellen G. White Estate is an organization created by the last will and testament of Ellen White to act as her agent in the preservation and publication of her literary works, including translating her writings for circulation around the world. In addition to arranging for the publication of these works in printed form, the trustees of the White Estate have made her writings available on the Internet and on CD-ROM.

Family Ministries

The focus of Family Ministries is upon relationships. It is a ministry to the "and," such as in husband and wife, parent and child. Thus this ministry concerns itself primarily with relational dynamics rather than the needs of individuals per se. The basic target areas of emphasis are premarital guidance, strengthening marriage and parent education, with attention also given to extended families, single parenting, step-family needs, and the family needs of singles.

Geoscience Research Institute

The mission of the Geoscience Research Institute is to assist the Church through the study of the world of nature with the purpose of discovering the underlying harmony between science and Scripture. One of the many intersections between science and religion is the question of origins. The Institute focuses on this and related matters.

Global Mission

A special initiative voted at the 1990 General Conference session, Global Mission focuses specifically on those parts of the world where there are no Adventists. This can range from an unentered suburb in a North American city through to an unentered country in the Middle East. A vital part of Global Mission is the pioneer program. Pioneers are laypeople who volunteer at least a year of their time to establish a congregation in an unentered area within their own culture.

Health Ministries Department

The Health Ministries Department serves as a resource for information and counsel on health and temperance affairs; advises the Church and its departments and related agencies on health and/or temperance related policies and programs; promotes a healthful life-style among church members through literature, programs and Sabbath services; provides through publications, services, and programs, an ongoing witness to the world concerning the physical, mental and soul-destroying effects of tobacco, alcohol and other substances.

Home Study International / Griggs University

Since 1909 Home Study International has served more than 300,000 students from over 60 countries through its flexible yet structured preschool, K-12, and college programs. HSI offers homeschoolers and their parents the assurance of a Christ-centered curriculum and the benefits of state approval and national accreditation. HSI-managed college degree programs are also available through regionally-accredited Adventist institutions of higher learning.

Ministerial Association

The Ministerial Association serves pastors, pastors' families, local church elders/company leaders, and Ministerial Association Secretaries. There are seven entities in the Ministerial Association which are as follows: Continuing Education, Elder's Training, Evangelism and Church Growth, Ministry Magazine, PREACH Program, Resource Center and Shepherdess International.

National Account

The National Account Program is a service of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist under the direction of the treasury department in Silver Spring, Maryland. The combined purchasing power of the church enables us to negotiate exceptional contract pricing that we can offer to our member organizations.

Office of General Counsel

The Office of General Counsel provides legal services to church entities located within the General Conference headquarters office complex. The six staff lawyers serve both General Conference and North American Division administration, departments, and services. Each lawyer has assignments covering specific areas of law or specific administrative or departmental offices. Major areas include corporate, tax, pension, trust & estate, constitutional, religious liberty, employment, and immigration law and litigation

Presidential

Presidential covers the primary leadership and administrative role for the Adventist Church.

Public Affairs and Religious Liberty

Public Affairs and Religious Liberty supports religious liberty internationally as one of the fundamental principles of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and as a God-given right. PARL represents the world headquarters of the Church on government issues, has an office at the United Nations, and hosts many diplomatic meetings to reinforce relations between the Church and different countries.

Publishing

The Publishing Department of the General Conference gives leadership to the work of the publishing departments worldwide, Home/Family Health Education Service offices, Adventist Book Centers, literature ministry seminaries, and literature evangelists.

Sabbath School/Personal Ministries

The Sabbath School/Personal Ministries Department Department provides Sabbath School Bible Study Guides, designs material for Sabbath School programming, offers training and resources to teachers and members, cooperates with the Office of Mission Awareness in the promotion of support for world missions, and designs programs and resources to help those areas of the world where church growth is limited.

Secretariat

The Secretariat Department has a basic responsibility in the selection and recommendation of personnel appointed from the North American Division to other divisions. It has a secondary cooperating responsibility for all calls between divisions, for the mission program of the church in general, and for processing general calls in the North American Division. Another important responsibility of Secretariat is the preparation of committee agendas and the preservation of committee minutes.

Stewardship

The Stewardship Department provides leadership training and education of church members in stewardship principles.

Transportation and International Personnel Service

The Transportation and International Personnel Service attends to the needs of inter-division personnel in transit from the time of their appointment to their arrival in the field; while they are on annual leave; and when they are returning from overseas service. The transport of personal effects and supplies for Adventist institutions is coordinated through this office. Phone Number: 301-680-6263

Trust Services

A specialized ministry at every level of the church whereby individuals and families may give their continuing support to God's work through wills, trusts, annuities, and other special gifts. Trust Services offers financial, estate and gift planning information. Services generally are free -- so every church member can effectively manage the resources God entrusts to them.

United Nations Liaison Office

The United Nations Liaison Office (a Department of Public Affairs and Religious Liberty) web site contains information regarding current events at the United Nations and church observations at the U.N. It also includes religious liberty materials regarding world affairs.

Women's Ministries

Women's Ministries is the department that ministers to the spiritual, emotional, physical and social needs of women. It encourages women to improve their potential and participation in the mission of the church. It provides a support system for hurting women, and a forum to help address topics and issues as they affect women in and out of the church. It promotes programs to mentor young women and encourages college young women academically through a scholarship program.

 

Youth

Responsibilities of the Youth Department include: initiate specific long-term strategic planning to meet youth ministry needs in consultation with divisions; initiate ideas, plans, and programs in cooperation with division youth ministries personnel; coordinate, evaluate, and monitor youth ministries work and resource materials worldwide; plan, develop, produce, and oversee, in consultation with the divisions, the implementation of a world curricula for religious education of youth; conduct training seminars, workshops, and congresses both for the department and the specialized ministries or programs withing the department.
